What Made Maddy Run: The Secret Struggles and Tragic Death of an All-American Teen
In this book, sportswriter, Kate Fagen, compassionately shares the life of Maddy, a beautiful, well-liked University of Pennsylvania varsity distance athlete from a loving and supportive family. Maddie also struggled with anxiety and depression, and tragically died by suicide her freshman year in 2014.
This book examines general attitudes toward mental health, the pressures many students and athletes face, and how social media can negatively impact mental health.
Join us in this safe and brave space as Sarah Underhill, Executive Director of Wellbeing Connection, leads us through a discussion of the book, mental health, and suicide. Anxiety, depression, and suicide are rising at alarming rates. We all know someone (partner, friend, child) who is struggling with their mental health; we may even be struggling ourselves. So….let’s talk about it.
As part of this discussion, Wellbeing Connection will provide handouts containing mental health resources, education (symptoms, checklists) and support.
